Over 13 weeks in the summer, our interns complete a variety of meaningful and impactful projects for our participating startups. In the past, interns have done front-end development, built financial models, created brand guides, designed user experiences (UX), programmed apps, made promo videos, and more.
Internships are open to anyone who is enrolled as a University of Michigan student and will continue a degree program in the fall semester following the internship. We recruit and consider undergraduate and graduate students, as well as domestic and international students from all University of Michigan schools and colleges. This is a full-time summer internship; interns must be able to be present during normal business hours, Monday through Friday. We may consider a hybrid schedule.
• A passion for startups • The ability and enthusiasm to contribute immediately • A willingness to step outside your skillset comfort zone • Adaptability and an open mind.
You will work with startups that are creating or applying technology to large or widely-shared problems. We recruit scalable, high-growth companies that are at the pre-seed or seed stage. Participating startups may have Enterprise, SaaS, B2B, B2B2C, B2C, or D2C sales strategies. Desai alumni have included companies in the following industries: • AI • Climate change • Gaming • Security (cyber and physical) • Events • Sporting equipment (Pickleball, gymnastics, dance) • Cosmetics
Alumni of this highly competitive internship program go on to work all over the nation on their own startups or early startups, established startups, premier software companies, design firms, venture capital firms, and more. The experiences students gain in our program prepare them well for roles at venture capital and investment banking firms' units focused on tech and startups. Companies interns have joined after Desai include: • Microsoft • Lyft • Bessemer Venture Partners • Bain & Company • Capital One • Google • Slack • Sales Force • SLB • Boston Consulting Group • NBC Universal • Lululemon • Amazon • PWC • Deloitte • MongoDB
